On 27 July, members at the Pretoria branch of The Workspace, together with partners or friends, enjoyed a lovely night of connection and conversation at a community dinner hosted by The Park Exchange. Everyone came together to enjoy great food and wine, and to engage in the sharing of ideas.
To spark conversation, participants pulled discussion topics from a jar. As sometimes happens, some of the topics initially seemed underwhelming, with those at the table having discussed issues like the Cape Town water crisis and the question of free higher education in South Africa many times before. However, this forum allowed for different and new perspectives to be added to the mix, and the conversation soon became lively, with everyone contributing fresh ideas.
Other topics, for example about what skills one can bring to the business sphere, became more personal. Several people opened up about their individual goals and dreams, creating opportunities for others to offer insights and possible future assistance.
Some of the participants said they particularly enjoyed this forum because it allowed for them to socialise with other business owners, both from their own sectors and others, and was a chance for them to break out of the loneliness that can easily come with entrepreneurship.
We’re also delighted that a number of those who attended the dinner apparently found one another after the dinner had officially ended to swap business cards, forging connections for the future.
Thanks to staff at The Workspace, The Park Exchange and everyone who attended for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of community and new thoughts.
