Trevor Noah might be best known as a stand-up comedian and, more recently, as popular host of The Daily Show – but his passion for improving the lives of young people in South Africa has found direction and purpose with his non-profit organisation.

At The Workspace, we’re delighted to have the Trevor Noah Foundation as a member at our Melrose Arch branch.

What is the Trevor Noah Foundation?

A non-profit organisation, the Trevor Noah Foundation aims to help our most vulnerable youth and keep them from “slipping through the cracks” by providing them with education and skills development.

“The higher the level of education, the higher chance the youth have of creating a future for themselves and collectively, a better South Africa.”  – Trevor Noah

An estimated 3.7 million orphans in South Africa are in desperate need of skills and education. At the same time, there’s a 60% unemployment rate for people under 25. That means that less than half of South Africans under age 25 have any kind of income.

What does the Trevor Noah Foundation do?

The Foundation partners with government schools, investing in three priority areas – psycho-social support, skills development and career guidance.

By researching innovative approaches and mobilising philanthropic capital, they hope to equip vulnerable youth with the education and life skills necessary for them pursue further opportunities after they graduate from high school.

The Foundation is currently working on a pilot initiative with a government school in Johannesburg that caters specifically for orphans and children who have no traditional family structure at home. With support from the Trevor Noah Foundation, the school aims to achieve a 100% transition rate from matric to university, technical or vocational institutions for its graduating learners.

Data and outcomes from this initiative can then be used to improve the transition rate to tertiary education at other government schools. Other education-focused organisations and even government can also benefit from these findings.

Our Melrose Arch branch

Our Melrose Arch branch is conveniently located just off the M1 highway, making for easy access to Johannesburg’s commercial districts.

The coworking space and serviced offices it provides are an affordable and flexible alternative to traditional office space. High-speed internet, landlines and office furniture are already in place, friendly reception and a range of business services are available onsite and members have access to professional meeting rooms and boardrooms.

Working alongside other organisations and businesses that are members at the branch also offers great networking opportunities.
